This blog is hosted on a new service I’m trying out called Blot. It’s a really neat platform that allows a user to publish text files (.txt
, .md
, and others) directly to a blog site as new posts. I first heard about it from Merlin Mann on the podcast Back to Work, episode 581.
I’ve been interested in blogging for quite a long time now for a host of reasons and I’m hoping that this service will reduce the barrier to actually getting my thoughts out into the world. Writing in Markdown inside of VSCode somehow feels easier than writing in a Google Doc. Could be the no-frills writing environment. Regardless, I don’t want my writing skills to atrophy and I think it would be valuable to build an easily-accessible collection of my thoughts purely for my own purposes. That, plus online publishing has always appealed to me!
I just managed to complete the last key piece of technical setup — tying the new site to my own domain. Fiddling with DNS settings is definitely not a comfort zone for me so this has already been a neat experience! It’s far easier to get this type of thing up and running than I expected.
Well, onward and upward!
